Much, Many, A lot of

Complete the sentences.

Fill in all the gaps, "Check" to see your answers. "Hint" gives a free letter.
A good general rule:
Use "much" and "many" for questions and negatives.
Use "a lot of" for affirmatives:
Do you drink much water?
I don't have many cigarettes.
A lot of old people live in Florida.

This rule is not always necessary but it avoids mistakes.

In affirmatives:
Much
Use for quantities you cannot count:
much water, much time, much traffic etc.
exception: much money (you can count it but it is always "much" - or "a lot of" money)

Many
Use for things you can count:
many pens, many people, many apples, many buildings, many cars etc.

There are two correct answers to some of these questions.

I don't have free time.
Do you have money on you?
My husband drinks whisky.
In Germany people eat pork.
I have a small car. It doesn't use petrol.
In New York city people go to work by subway.
Not English people eat snails.
The English eat chips.
I write e-mails but I dont send text messages.
I don't see birds in my garden.
Peter doesn't eat vegetables but he eats fruit.
Is there salt in cornflakes?
Do you get advertisements in the post?
Do you get spam in your e-mails?
