"Any","anything", "anybody", "anywhere" etc. are used for questions and negatives.
and
"Some","something", "somebody", "somewhere" etc. are used for affirmatives.
There are some exceptions however:
"Some","something", "somebody", "somewhere" etc. are used in questions when the existance of the material is not in question.

Can I try some of those biscuits?
Shall we eat somewhere by the river?
After "never, "without", "hardly", use "Any","anything", "anybody", "anywhere" etc.
I have never seen anything like it!

Hardly anybody wears a hat these days.
After "if" clauses "any" is usual:
If you have anything to declare, join the line on the left.
If any passenger knows how to pilot a plane, please raise your hand.
